Subject Firebird BBS existed before FirebirdSQL
Author Per von Zweigbergk
Hi.

When I heard of the news that you were complaining that Mozilla's new
lightweight browser, recently changing name from Phoenix to Firebird,
I immediately thought: What's wrong with these guys? If I were to
choose a name for a project I'd at least do a google search for it first!

That's just what I did. And guess what I turned up. A BBS system
(seemingly in use mostly in the Chinese-speaking world) called
Firebird BBS, which existed a long time before 31 July 2000 when the
FirebirdSQL project started.

This makes me wonder how substantiated your claims to ownership of
this name is. Clearly, you also stole the name of another software
project.

Their web page is at http://www.firebird.org.tw/ (be warned, it's
slow and I guess it won't make much sense without knowing Chinese).

Also, I must note that I am not a member of the Firebird BBS
development team, nor am I a user of their software. Nor do I
represent the developers of the Firebird web browser.
