Not to offend anyone, but when I hear "White Knight" I think "that's
pretty cheesy". Firebird is marginally better, but there is already a car
(American muscle no less) with that name. Shouldn't we be more concerned
about getting this effort off the ground than naming it? It really is the
sort of detail that can be put off for a little while. That said, how about
this :

"The RDBMS formerly known as InterBase"

Delphi's success is partially due to the name being totally left-field. The
original plan was to call the product AppBuilder. Delphi just happened to be
the
project code name. Prior to release I remember there being a slight uproar
amongst all the excited field testers when there was even a hint that the
product might ship under a different name. At least that time Borland
listened.

(And I too am unimpressed with all the SQL, Base, .dotcom, and other
hackneyed
ideas. We need a fresh name for an original product. White Knight sounds
good to
me, as does FireBird. And that is about all I have to contribute on the
matter
of the name.)
