Delphi's success is partially due to the name being totally left-field. The
original plan was to call the product AppBuilder. Delphi just happened to be the
project code name. Prior to release I remember there being a slight uproar
amongst all the excited field testers when there was even a hint that the
product might ship under a different name. At least that time Borland listened.

(And I too am unimpressed with all the SQL, Base, .dotcom, and other hackneyed
ideas. We need a fresh name for an original product. White Knight sounds good to
me, as does FireBird. And that is about all I have to contribute on the matter
of the name.)
