White Knight is less easy for some non-english speaking people.
I suspect french people for instance will more easily use Firebird than
White Knight. I'm sure if I speak over the phone with french speaking people
about White Knight, they'll tend to get and write down "white night". Which
literally translated by most french people would say 'nuit blanche' which in
english is 'sleepless night'. Not what we intend the software for... It is
not supposed to give sleepness nights to people (except for our community
maybe !).

Kodak would have been an excellent name. It pronounces nearly the same in
any language... Though it's already taken, isn't it ? :-)

I do not know if Firebird would have any chance to get registered for a
software. But I like it.

I agree with Geoff. My preferences among the names mentioned so far is
White Knight or Firebird. My guess is that it is an advantage to have a
name different to anything else if the database becomes well known. And I
see no reason for wanting IB to copy any other database. Do we want people
to think "Ah, this name indicates that this is a product similar to dBase
or Sybase"?
