Hi Just Wondering
When will IB source be released under the open source licence?
I think even a tarball release of non cleaned up code would be a sign that
things are moving along.
Until something like that happens, I personally am concerned the whole
opensource thing will be cancelled and a last minute deal announced, where
Interbase is bought for 40 pieces of silver and then shelved (after a suitable
period of faked enthusiasm for the product) by another company such as an Oracle
or Microsoft who are out to protect their own database products turf.
I think the delay is a concern and would be greatly encouraged, by a release of
even "unsupported not yet working" source code tarball. Something like this
would be a commitment to continuting down the opensource path. And should be
possible despite the incomplete and difficult nature of "seperating a division
from the company".
I don't doubt the extrodinary commitment and effort put in by many of the people
involved. And we all want it to be a success, but currently expectations are
high but there is no real binding commitment, it's legally all still in the
marketting and sales release arena.
So how about a "pre-release " source code drop, to quell my and presumably
others concerns?
