You are right with emphasis on "[if] there is an active community using it".
We need to unite and be that active community using it otherwise we are
totally at the mercy of Inprise.

With a product like InterBase, this could be exceedingly expensive and
unrealistic unless you are a major corporation who can afford 10-30K in a
moment's notice.
