Subject Jumping the gun???

Hi all,

I am the Tech. Director of Synectics Software, the writers of the
Replication Software that has been scheduled for release with IB 6. In
fact I am the chief architect of that bit of software.

However I am speaking in my personal capacity here, as we as a company
are somewhat stunned by recent developments, and have yet to come to
grips with the whole thing.

A couple of positive points before I get to the gist of my posting:

I am very gratified that so many people have stepped forward to keep
Interbase going, and indeed am very willing to stay involved myself. I
have been working with Interbase since IB 3.2 (about 6 years), and of
course have put in many months of work into the Replication project.

The latest word from Inprise is that a company will be formed to
run/control the development path of Interbase, and that the developer
world will be able to contribute/invest in this company. It will (by all
accounts) be seeded by people currently involved in Interbase.

My point is that much of the stuff you are organising here such as the
wishlist, currently exists, and will presumably be carried over to the
new company.

I don't believe that Inprise will release any code until this company is
up and running, so everything that is organised here, may be fine, but
may also find that it suddenly has nothing to do, since the code is
lacking.

I suggest that things should not be taken too far right now, since all
we are working with is that the IB code will be released "before
June/July".

By all means pressure should be maintained on Inprise by the Interbase
community to do the right thing, and do it quickly.

I am not trying to be a party pooper, just trying to be a realist, given
the fact that Inprise is a methodical company, not given to rushing
things.

Vince
