Subject | Roadmap for future of IBO and introducing EDO (Enterprise Data Objects) |

I have made the decision to work on EDO 1.x and bypass my intentions for an
IBO 6.x version.
EDO 1.x will accomplish the goal of addressing the divergence between
Firebird and InterBase.
This will also accomplish the goal of addressing the divergence between
FireMonkey and the VCL.
It will also provide a foundation upon which I can bring in support of other
database backends.
I am using the term Enterprise Data Objects because I want to make it
encompass a wide array of database support as well as the platforms via the
Delphi development environment as well as the Free Pascal/Lazarus
development environment.
I also want to make it easier to create data aware controls so that people
can quickly and easily bring in custom visual controls.
I will continue to support, enhance and fix IBO 5.x as necessary in parallel
with EDO development and it will remain a permanently supported product. It
has official support for Delphi/CPPB 5 and up and I will bring in support
for new versions of Delphi/CPPB over the years. You do not need to worry
that my efforts to expand the user base of the IBO architecture via EDO are
going to diminish my commitment to keep IBO 5.x a viable and competitive
product.
I don't have a timeframe for when EDO will be released.
EDO 1.x will NOT support any version of Delphi prior to Delphi XE.
