Much of the server hardware has moved over to Linux, and the scalability that
provides for Apache/PHP/Firebird, just leaving what I call the 'workstations'
tied to windows. Until recently these have been stably running on the 2003
package of code, and with W2k kept on the machine ( so the hardware continues to
run ;) ) but while I've got a couple of sites were we have moved up to FB2.5
without a problem, later ones are now throwing very occasional crashes often
enough to force a switch back to FB2.1 which is a nightmare in itself :(
A couple of sites are still running FB1.5 with an even more complex IBO package
which has not even been ported to the web base, but which I now need to address
some issues on, hence my current thought about moving up versions wise.
My initial thought is that personally perhaps all I need to do is move to IBO4.8
and work from that? Longer term I need to rework all of the hardware, but that
is a much more complex job and one which I HAD started to address with Kylix
until that was killed off. Switching over the linux on the my workstation
hardware is actually looking more practical that replacing a lot of hardware
that even windows XP has some problems with. There is nothing wrong with the
hardware, and I have spares on the shelf to maintain it for probably another 20
years ... just pigging windows :) So it looks like I am better off looking into
Lazarus and seeing what I can do with that. I don't 'need' Pascal I'm probably
one of the few people who never moved over to it, staying with C++ ...
