Usually IBO only takes about 2 to 3 weeks to adapt for a new release of
Delphi. This time around I am taking about 3-4 months, and that's just to
cross the hurdle with operability. IBO 5 is going to take another 4 to 6
months to get it to where it is dealing with Unicode efficiently. Sadly, I
was "asleep at the wheel" (so to speak) and did not see this coming to
handle it in a timely manner.
I agree this change is a very good change for Delphi. It is good to be early
on important trends. I believe we will ultimately thank them for having the
confidence and commitment to make this jump. It's a bitter pill we all
eventually need to swallow. Mostly us spoiled English folk with the standard
ASCII character set.
Anyway, lets just gulp down the bitter pill and then enjoy being at the
forefront of technology again. I'm not irritated by their efforts to
smoothen things out with some slick PR (public relations) maneuvering and
gimmicks. The fact is, everything takes work and Delphi is still the best
language available for real programming.
