i have reported this problem a lot of time in the past.
?
Perhaps setting fetDomainNames (a Connection property) to false you can
speed-up the first open.
If used correctly schema-cache can speed-up but only from the second time.
If you need more i can search in the old topics of the mailing list, i have
sended a lot of mail some year ago.

I had to hack IB_Schema.pas to disable the schema loading.
