I was mistaken myself about the effect of the navigator control. I
discovered that when I jump from the particular field (the one that is not
being formated properly) to the same field in another record is where it
loses formatting.
If I click on a different field, or use the navigator or scrollbar, it
maintains it's formatting.
Also if I post a record while the particular field is selected, then it also
loses it's formatting.
