OK - should have asked - you are using Fb1.5?
FB1.0's security database has a .gdb extension which Microsoft clobbers
as well.

As for Cache -
I'm not near an IBO installation today so I can't check the cache stuff.
I think its IB_Connection.SchemaCacheDir - but it should be in the help.
