Very often the problem when embedding in grid is that the component one thinks is embedded is outside the grid.
If you put your cursor on the component and press ESC your "handles" should back out one step to the grid
OR
Look in Object Tree View to see if the edit, combo etc is actually inside the grid.
I've seen this explained many times, particularly by Helen. But if you use Control C on Component and Control X to Clip it out and Control V to Place into Grid you should get right result (component embedded in grid).
Once you or your colleagues try getting the wrong result 10 times or so, you'll usually realize the problem!
