Nothing was ever fixed in this area. It has always worked as I described
here. By not having a default transaction each statement and dataset makes
their own internal one. To most people this would all seem transparent.

It did for me. But, I have to admit that my experience with this
dates back quite a few versions(heck a few years). And, I just tried
it, and obviously it has been fixed(or addressed) in the past. Ah
well, I still prefer not to specify a default transaction(personal
preference).
