Iam sorry for making it this hard for you. But I think if I follow
your instructions you have mention that could result to using the
ib_combobox as a controls in inserting/editing records.

What I want is to use the ib_combobox for searching because of its
available property of itemvalues and item, unlike the ordinary
combobox which as items property only which could require me to write
longer code.

Well is this possible?
