Simply because IBObjects is the best set of database connectivity
components available for Delphi - at least according to it's annual reward
from Delphi Informant. If you are moving from the BDE it is also very
simple to change to IBO, whereas IBX will be more difficult.

No, quite the contrary. As long as you use IBO for development, you are
supposed to pay a fee. But Jason understands that until sales starts there
may not be any money available. Still, you are supposed to pay from when
you started to use IBO for profitable development.

On the other hand, if you stop using IBO, you may continue selling your
programs without paying anything. There are no "royalties" for programs
developed using IBO.

At least there are many who have done this before you.

Well, that depends on what components you want. IBO Core is a must and then
I would at least use IBO Native Data Access and IBO Native Data Aware
Controls (but these are not essential if you do not want to explore the
power of the native components and only use the TDataset compatible
components). And if you are migrating from an Interbase/BDE application or
use third party tools not supporting native IBO, you will need the IBO
TDataset Data Access. So I would recommend starting with the IBO4 Data
Access Bundle.
