Simply put, if you want Firebird you can't use IBX, since it's becoming more and more incompatible.
You can use:
IBObjects, that I use
FIBPlus (http://www.devrace.com/index2.php)

I think that IBO native components for data access and visual controls are really powerful and Client/Serfver oriented, that means that you can have huge performance benefits and less code.
It's pricely, but there are components that, for instance, I don't use (TDataset descendants, Web, text search, etc.), and it sames me from buyng other data entry components just to have a decent date edit or monetary edit component.
If you start, you do need to buy Getting Started Guide (GSG) that's about 29$.
