I would not be surprised to learn that the problem is due to a
"feature" in the VCL or Windows API. I remember much time being spent
on grid scrolling problems a year to two ago - and speaking of
which...

I would be curious to know if anyone experiencing the disappearing
grid problem has tried turning off the callbacks on all their datasets
(not just the one attached to the grid). This can often be the source
of peculiar problems because it allows some processing to proceed out
of normal order.

I dont know if anyone has managed to create a demo app of the problem
yet. Until it can be easily produced it is going to be difficult to
understand and fix.
