I used to be so eager to take any hint of a problem and spend hours with it.
But now, there are thousands of developers using IBO where 4 years ago there
were only scores.
I hope people aren't taking my shortness and demands to put more of the
burden of isolating problems upon them as a decrease in my commitment to the
quality of the product. Actually, it is because of my commitment to the
product's overall quality that I more carefully govern how and where I spend
my time. I could easily spend hours on this and never got anywhere. I used
to do this all the time. With the demands upon me, I simply cannot afford to
do that anymore.
So, that will largely be what I expect of people if they want immediate
action from me is a quick and easy way for me to isolate problems. If it
isn't isolated I'm not going to take immediate action. This isn't to say I
don't want things aired out on the list. Just write things in a way that
doesn't assume I have 10 hours a day to sit around and try to isolate every
little niggle that comes out on the list (like I used to actually do).
