I would normally trouble the list with OT stuff but this is rather nice so I
thought I'd share it.

If you go to www.ud.com you can download a 'screen saver' that uses your
spare machine cycles to run a cancer research program for Oxford University.
Apparently if run on a super-computer it would take longer than the rest of
the researchers lives. By splitting it up into little parcels and sending
it out to millions of PCs over the net it can be done a lot faster.

I've been running it for several days without any ill effects (to my
computer), it's fairly fascinating to watch and it gives you a warm nice
feeling that all those wasted cycles are being put to good use :-)
