I wonder if you are explicitly calling Connect before you try to Prepare the
statements.

Here's where there is a catch, when you go to prepare a statement some
parsing is performed. Often times this parsing is dependant upon what the
SQL Dialect is. By default the connection thinks it is 1 but as soon as a
connection is made it actually asks the database what dialect it is. Then it
automatically adjusts if necessary. So, if you are D3 then there could be a
small window of time that parsing goes from D1, then a connection is made
and it continues with D3.

You can tell your connection to use D3 all of the time and this will resolve
this potential problem.
