This capability has been brought up in the past.
I am not opposed to having the benefits you talk about.
This would be a great idea.
What I am more inclined to do is catch the permission exceptions and have it
simply respond to them instead of do a whole bunch of metadata queries for
you.

This is on my list of things to do but it doesn't have high priority because
most people are writing their own using ROLEs. This is how I do it.
