It is true. Jeff O. said he (and Borland for that matter) will make no
effort whatsoever to support Firebird. As long as Firebird stays the same as
interbase it will work but they plan to do nothing on Firebird's benefit.
What I expect to see is IBX will eventually rely upon some InterBase
specific thing that Firebird doesn't have. Then, IBX will no longer work
with Firebird and there won't be anything people will do about it beside
fork an IBX for Firebird. If that is the case, people just ought to
cooperate with IBO and work together. Anyone doing such gets IBO free of
charge for assisting.
For those wanting to participate in development of their middle ware, what
advantage does IBX have over IBO? None that I can see. So, if you want to
continue with Firebird, either resign yourself to forking IBX eventually or
just use IBO.
