Subject: SuperIB Event Alerter Announcement
SuperIB Event Alerter
...is officially unsupported and hereby given to the public domain.
01/28/2001
Dear SuperIB User:
Almost two years ago I stumbled across an InterBase feature that I believed
was both important and very useful. The official component that provided
access to this feature was a joke, and was utterly unusable. Out of
desperation to take advantage of this feature, the SuperIB Event Alerter was
born.
For the last two years my component has been the de-facto standard for those
wishing to take advantage of InterBase Events. Sadly, the amount of time I
devoted to this component has gradually dwindled to nothing. The last major
update to the SuperIB Event Alerter was over a year ago. In an effort to
keep a high quality event component on the market, I began negotiations with
several people to keep the code alive -- with success. I am pleased to
announce that the InterBase Express component set (starting with IBX v4.5)
now sports an all-new TIBEvents component based on the SuperIB code base!
My component originally supported the Borland Database Engine (BDE),
IBObjects (IBO), and the FreeIB (FIB) database component sets. Later, thanks
to a generous user, InterBase Express (IBX) support was added. In early 2000
Borland royally screwed themselves by failing to support the new IB 6
release in the BDE. The BDE has since fallen into less common use, so, I see
no purpose in continuing to support it. FreeIB was picked up by Borland and
transformed into IBX, so I see no need to continue supporting it. IBX now
has now picked up and incorporated my component, so I see no need to
continue supporting it. IBObjects has their own event alerter component that
works, and permission to incorporate the SuperIB code base as well, so I see
no need to continue supporting it either.
It is for these reasons that I have decided to declare the SuperIB Event
Alerter unsupported and public domain. It is now my official recommendation
that all IBX/IBO users switch to their component set's native event
component. If you are still a BDE or FIB user, the existing SuperIB Event
Alerter should continue to work just fine for you.
To download the latest version of the InterBase Express (IBX) component set,
please visit Borland's official page here (tends to be out of date), or
CodeCentral here (your best bet).
To download the latest version of the IBObjects (IBO) component set, please
visit their official page here.
If you still want the original (discontinued) SuperIB Event Alerter
component, please visit our original homepage by clicking here.
Thank you for all your support over the last two years!
Sincerely,
David Becker
