As far as I can tell it should work ok.

The problem is that I'm using a generic code to copy one TDataset to another
TDataset. It first copies the structure of the dataset and then copies the
records assigning the value of each field in the source to the value of the
corresponding one in the target.

Actualy, if you get the value as string (AsString) it works ok too. My test
program uses such code to display the ido of the root element in a TEdit.

What happens when you use Fields[xx].AsInteger?
