Yes, for sure this is a IBO-related feature. (there's a discussion in IBO
list about this).

I did a quick test now and I've got the behaviour that you talked about. I
use both tools a lot - IBConsole and IBOConsole - but I never noticed this
because I don't use varchars so big (I use blob's).

I think you must send an email to Lorenzo about this, and he will be abble
to change this behaviour in IBOConsole. IBO does something "smart" for most
of the applications (this will help developers in another situations), but
for applications just like IBOConsole this is really a mess.
