Thanks for that, it did explain it perfectly well. I completely overlooked the 'Firebird' binary in the package, I'd never worked with Frameworks before. 

For my package a quick run of install_name_tool to change the paths to @loader_path based relatives makes the Framework private, and loadable from python without being installed in the system. Job Done!
