Subject User management defective
Author Matthias Hanft
Hi,

I have a FB 2.0.3 server on Linux. Everything runs well, but I'm planning
to upgrade to the latest 2.5.x version. Since I can't remember exactly
which users are installed at the server (and I guess I can't use the
2.0.3 security2.fdb "just like that" for 2.5.x), I tried to open a
user manager (from IBexpert or FlameRobin) in order to have a look
at the user list (and re-enter them manually into a freshly installed
empty 2.5.x server). But every time I try to open the user manager,
the server crashes and writes to firebird.log:

--- cut here ---

fileserver (Client) Sat Jul 5 21:04:17 2014
/usr/lib/firebird/../../../usr/bin/fbguard: ../../../usr/bin/fbserver terminated abnormally (-1)

fileserver (Client) Sat Jul 5 21:04:17 2014
/usr/lib/firebird/../../../usr/bin/fbguard: guardian starting ../../../usr/bin/fbserver

fileserver (Server) Sat Jul 5 21:04:17 2014
64 bit i/o support is on.

fileserver (Server) Sat Jul 5 21:04:17 2014
Open file limit increased from 1024 to 4096

--- cut here ---

(and of course IBexpert or FlameRobin have lost the server connection at
that point). gsec's "display" is crashing, too, but "add" and "delete"
do work.

gbak and restore of security2.fdb via the services manager didn't change
anything (except that it shrunk the security2.fdb file from 8,5 MB to
684 KB - is that strange?!).

I'm not sure how to continue from here - for the moment, I only see the
possibility to start the new server version with an empty user list and
look for crashing client software...

Any hints?

Thanks,
-Matt
