Although your posting and findings are a few months old, I wonder if you
have been able to move forward with your problem?

Someone trying to move a ~ 350 connections environment from 2.1 to
2.5.2, also with an import/update load scenario, is experiencing drastic
performance slow-downs while testing with 2.5.2.
