Subject Performance issue
Author Michael Vilhelmsen
Hi

We have just this night moved an 80Gb DB from one server to another this night.

And today performance of the DB is slow! So slow it is almost unusable.

Before we switch back I would like some suggestions, which I might not have considered. But first background.

FIREBIRD:
Firebird 2.1 64 bit

OLD SERVER:
Some linux version (not quite sure which).
8 Gb RAM

NEW SERVER:
Windows Server 2008
8 Gb RAM
Firebird uses on average 0-25% CPU. Nothing else seems to take any CPU.
There should be no AntiVirus software on this new server

The dump (GBAK) on old server lasted 3 hours. Quite exactly
On the new it took 2½ hours.

On average there are 150 sim. connected users.

When it was running on the old server it was running fast and smoothly.
On the new it does not. It reccon it s factor 20 (at least) in difference in speed.

The file was physically copied to the new server this past night.

What we consider at this point:

1.
Running a SET STATISTICS

2.
Running a sweep
(both old and new DB has a gab of 7.500.000 between oldest transaction and next. Only 30.000 between oldest active and next trancaction.
When running on the old server with this, there was no problem).

What more do I need to think about?

Does a direct move of the DB file from a linux environment to a windows cause this performance issue?

Anything (before we roll back to the old environment).
