If I understand, you want update the first table and after update the second table with number of first table?
If yes, why you dont make a (ACTION) UPDATE CASCADE Foreigner Key relationship?
ID2 (table 2) link to ID1 (table 1) when any change in ID1 will be changed in ID2.
so, the update is automatic!
Now, the "time" will be bigger when you records is bigger.
