Do people manually go through these logs on a daily basis looking for errors or are people using grep to search for error lines in the log file and alerting that way? Just interested in what others are doing, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't recall if gbak returns an exit error code if something weird
happens, but to check if a backup is valid, the only thing you can do is
to restore the backup and see if this process goes through. This is
something I do for critical databases/backups.
