Thanks to all who gave me feedback on this. I am still not entirely sure what
the problem was with IBExpert - as I tried the exact same query in IBOConsole
and got the results I expected. The bug I had in Delphi (previously app had been
written in Delphi 2005) was I think and ANSI character set issue. Once I
re-constructed the data-aware components in the new version of Delphi , all
worked well.
