No. It depends on the client.

Well, it depends how ofter you need to read/write to database. If you
use some library that caches the resultsets locally, you should be fine.

Please note that WAN does not mean "wired lan". Firebird's performance
over broadband can be quite usable - it depends on amount of queries you
need to run.

The best way is to try.
