Welcome to the real world! I am working with a database that is
similar to what you have described, only it is running under SQL
Server. The database comes from DBase, so you can pretty much figure
out the mess they brought to the SQL arena. The funny thing is that
they keep adding a lot of more mess, and the programmer that is
working on it just doesn't listen and thinks he is doing the right
thing.

Anyway... others have already answered to your question, but just
wanted to let you know that you are not alone.
