In one of the networks with the problem, I changed the application and Firebird server to another PC, which has also Windows 2003 Server but does not have active directory and it works good (the application starts in 7 or 8 seconds). So, I guess the switch is not the problem.


Following John advice, I tried connecting to the database using the following:

SERVERNAME:ALIASOFMYDATABASE
127.0.0.1:ALIASOFMYDATABASE
192.168.1.254:ALIASOFMYDATABASE (local IP address)

\\SERVERNAME\ALIASOFMYDATABASE
\\127.0.0.1\ALIASOFMYDATABASE
\\192.168.1.254\ALIASOFMYDATABASE (local IP address)

In every case, the problem is still there.

Any other idea?

In case it is of any help I recently encountered something similar and it turned out to be a slow/cheap switch which, once replaced with something faster, cured the problem immediately.
