If i'm not mistaken, SQL conformance was influenced by big actors in RDBMS (DB2 , Oracle). MySQL is very popular but its syntax is strange for me. May be PostgreSQL is better in SQL conformance but i have no experience and i'm told its performance is not the best.

about CTE ("WITH" clause), Firebird have it
