Well, I'm an Oracle DBA by trade and the first rule of hopefully
recovering from a disaster is "always backup what you have". Based on
the principle that if you make a mistake when recovering, at least you
can get back to a "reasonable" starting position and try again.

Without the backup, you could find yourself with no data instead of
some! Just a thought.
