Subject Migrate from IB 6.0.2 / FB1. to FB????.
Author jason_jac2
All,

Been a while since I have been on this forum, I have two similar questions.

I have two sites, one on IB6.0.2 and the other on FB1.0.3 (I think). Both running on W2K server boxes.

Both sites want to move to later hardware/OS (MS Windows 2008 SBS and MS Windows 2008 R2 both running 64bit).

In addition we really need to be able to roll forward / roll back until we are completely happy the set up is rock solid and we don't have any application problems etc. So we need to be able to migrate and if we have any issues migrate back. Both are dialect 1 at the moment.

2.1 seems to be the first native 64 bit DB Engine, but comes with migration issues that shouldn't be rushed and also semantic changes which are likely to require more testing.

1.5 seems favourite at the moment as it is closest to both of the previous, although it is going to require another migration later to a true 64 bit platform and all the nice things in 2.x.

So any advice?

Is anyone happily running 1.5 on 64 bit windows 2008 SBS or R2?

Any experiences of 1.x -> 2.x and back again.

For one site we are using Delphi XE and IBX and the other Delphi 7 and IBX / FibPlus and even some BDE in for good measure. All running over TCP/IP.

I have read the migration notes from Firebird-2.1.3-Installation.pdf (which are pointed to from 2.0.x 2.1.x & 2.5 web pages fro downloads and will read, but I think it is a step too far in the time we have. Of course asking here to get a better view of my options.

TIA - JAC
