I would like to pay someone to look at this problem as a matter of
urgency for us. Can you please advice on the best person to help us that
has the time and knowledge to investigate this issue?



It is a very stressing defect because we cannot find any workarounds for
it and it is present apparently in all versions of Firebird. I have no
idea even if it can be fixed.

Hi Dmitry,

That was my first try. Unfortunately it is a lot worse. It allocates 2GB
of RAM and that keeps on working corrupting memory. Scary stuff.

Have you considered writing an UDF which receives a blob and returns a
varchar? It shouldn't produce any temporary blobs and its input blob
will be closed right after the UDF is executed, so I don't expect any
memory to leak here.
