what happens if you use localhost:/home/firebird/xxx/xxx.fdb ??

In Linux NO (AFAIK)

But performance is not as good as with Classic

Yes, but only as far as you don't have a firewall. Seting up a firewall to
be able to use firebird events with Classic, is not a trivial task.
