Subject Firebird memory usage and/or configuration issue
Author Ryan Griggs
Hello all,

A little preface: I'm working with a client that is running a POS
application that connects to a Firebird 2.1 database. The problem is
that Firebird is eating up all of the memory on the server and thus
killing performance in a major way. The server is a quad-core with 16GB
of memory running on Windows and is dedicated solely to this
application. Firebird is currently set up in Classic mode and each
spawned process is taking up around 250-300MB of memory. Typically
during the day there are 50-70 concurrent connections via the POS
application.

My question is this: Do you think that there would be a notable
performance increase by using Superserver mode rather than Classic?
Also, are there any additional configuration options that I may have
overlooked that might help with performance? I'm no Firebird expert but
have worked with it in the past so I'm not entirely unfamiliar with it.

Thanks,

Ryan Griggs
