Ahh... I see now. Thanks for that. just tried it - and it works fine
without name and password - and 'other' doesn't need rw access to
security2.fdb anymore.

Having said that - the owner (root) still does, and I now have to give
PUBLIC rights to objects in our database - but that's ok.
