Hi there, we have a significant number of clients hosting FB 1.5.x databases on Macs (a mix of Intel, PPC, 10.4, 10.5, etc). All of them use FB classic.
We get quite a few database corruptions reported per week. We understand that, for example, copying the database file (easy with lack of file locking) while it's in use can corrupt it, but not many of our users would do that (or even know where the data file is). It just seems that the database reliability on the Mac is not great... compared to our Windows sites were there have probably only been 4 or 5 corruptions in the last 3 years (and one of those was due to a server crash).
Anyway, what I'm getting to is that we are wanting to move to FB 2.1 for the Mac (and probably go from classic to super server). Do any of you have 1.5-to-2.1 anecdotes you can share regarding reliability (especially if you had troubles under 1.5 on the Mac)?
(I.e, I assume you'd all consider 2.1 vastly superior to 1.5 in terms of general stability, but any actual experiences, especially with Macs, would be interesting. Our problem is that in-house we do not experience these corruptions, so we are looking for feedback from those that have updated.)
Thanks in advance, Phil
