Hi Folks:
Developing on XP Home, VS2008 Pro, C++, Firebird-2.1.1.17910-0, IBPP 2-5-3-1.
I've developed a product with my business partner that uses Firebird. I'm the technical person, he's the person with the user's perspective.
A customer who does not require multi-user access can run the program with the embedded Firebird server. No problem.
Those who require multi-user access need to install a multi-user Firebird, on their computer or on a separate server.
The Firebird SuperServer silent install and the setting up of the application's user account on Firebird is packaged up neatly enough, no operator intervention required.
The problem comes with my instructions for opening ports in the firewall, editing the RemoteAuxPort line in Firebird.conf, and editing each client's hosts file to add the server.
My partner feels there is no way a non-technical user can perform these tasks. I understand his concern, and recommend a technical consultant be hired for the setup.
Does anybody have instructions for these tasks for non-technical users?
Thanks
Larry
