Do you get connected for ODBC?

I have had never problems of connection

Help Me...
I have system A with database A (firebird database)

I will to evolving my system with Visual basic (system B). because
System A source code is missing.

if system a is running i can't run system B, because system acces the
same database A. allways show mesage can't open database in use.

so, how to open database ?
