I'd go witn FB Classic since you have a SMP box. My experience with Xeon
Quad/200 concurrent connections (but on a Windows Server) is that Classic
performs *a lot* better than SS.

I use Fb 1.5 and AFAIR the only change I did to the default FB conf was
raise some lock manager settings (LockMemSize, LockHashSlots). AFAIK, Fb 2.1
already has this default settings raised though.
