If you're doing a lot of sorting, say "Yes" to that extra stick of RAM, because Classic can use it. Configure it so it is used effectively. Also think about putting in a dedicated fast hard-drive which you configure just for sort space and virtual memory caching.

Do we have a 'beginners guide' on this?
I need to tidy up a couple of sites, and have the opportunity to put in a new
extra server so I need to work out the best way to move things, and the best
machine hardware.
I'm still not convinced that PHP *IS* playing nicely with Classic on Linux,
and I'm having problems with the legacy connections dropping out from time to
time ( Builder rather than Delphi ). So currently I'm only confident that
Apache and PHP go onto a Linux machine and Firebird stays on the Windows box.
I have no problems on the sites with that set-up - but move Firebird to Linux
and the Windows apps crash once or twice a day :(
Drop the windows apps ( as happens on my own web sites ) and I keep growing
orphan fb_inet_server and httpd processes so I have to killall every week or
so and restart Apache.
