Instead of doing a full gbak hourly, why don't you use NBACKUP
incremental back-up facilities.
1.) Full back-up weekly
2.) Incremental level 1 daily
3.) Incremental level 2 hourly

I suggest you to use CS version, IIRC you told us you use SS (SS would
use a single core)

Make sure you have a small page cache using CS.
